Back in August 2004, I placed on my website, most of the way down the page, an item about Mount Vernon's 2nd Street bridge that spans I-5. It had been problematic for decades because it had the lowest clearance of any bridge over I-5, occassionally catching an unwary truck driver. I took pictures of it just before they replaced it- in the interim they have torn it down and built a new, higher and wider one. Behold: |

The new bridge. |
The historic bridge. |

The old bridge was utilitarian. |
The new one is kind of fancy... |

The new bridge opened a while back, |
and they put on the finishing touches in time for the Tulip Festival. |
