Cindy, I would love to have a full copy of the first song on your feb 2006 page. The one where the cat is spinning the turntables. It's sung by a gal and is about all the things she should be doing.

I've been reading your work for over a year and enjoy it all !

Either way, Have a GREAT life !!

Thanks, Tom in Florida

Tom, The clip is of Cheryl Wheeler doing her song Unworthy, from the Sylvia Hotel CD: http://www.cherylwheeler.com/songs/unworthy.html Cheryl is a wonderful performer, I recommend seeing her in concert if you can. This particular CD is exceptional- well worth buying.

I'm glad you find my site interesting, and your email took me by surprise, as I thought all of my regular readers were people who know me.

Anyway, check out Cheryl's site, she deserves any business you can throw her way.

And you have a great life too! Cindy

I hopped on your website as I often do, and was surprised and very pleased to see your article on John Prine! John is my idol, hero and favorite singer/songwriter. I became interested in him back in my Hillsdale College days after seeing that a few of the songs I liked off from Bette Midler and John Denver albums were written by him. So I checked him out- and have been hooked on him ever since! I have seen him twice; once in K’zoo and just last year in GR. I have all of his albums, tapes, whatever and my sis Sharon had to tease me when I had to get his latest Fair & Square release when we were on a shopping trip the week of its release. My idolation of him has sort of been a joke in my family for years! But he is the greatest, in my mind, and whenever I think of who in the world I would love to meet and have one dinner with; it would be him. During my married years my favorite song in the world was Angel From Montgomery; that WAS my life, I felt. I still love that song, but do not know where to put it in my top favorite list as it is not longer relevant. I chat with folks on the John Prine Shrine a lot and am always trying to find someone close in proximity to me to share my interests, go to concerts with, etc. I took Sara with me (several yrs ago; made her go) when I saw him in K’zoo & she got all embarrassed the way I acted & refuses to go to any more! I love it when I wear my John Prine t-shirt and someone actually KNOWS who he is! I am glad that you like his concert; have been looking to see where & when in MI he is coming; so far closest is Ann Arbor. I am listening to Fair & Square CD here as I write this; also refers to Goodwill in 1 of his tunes! You can add to your website article on him that I am a HUGE fan!!!!!!!

So nice to hear from you. Sorry we did not get back to you sooner. Yes we did get the Wedding Picture CD. Thank you so very much. I went to school and printed out a number of real nice pictures for myself and for Mom and Dad. They have a color laser printer at school and it made large 8X10 size color pictures, real sharp.

I keep checking your Web Site from time to time, it is unbelievable what you are able to do. Bill Gates should be jealous.

Hi Cindy,
I just scanned your site - I didn't follow all the links but got a very different sense of you and what you're about outside the ridiculousness of what we do at work. I most appreciated the excerpt from Anne Morrow - particularly in light of my alleged "mentalpause." Her words really resonate and take me back to another time (pre-mentalpause..teehee) when life was simpler. A time when I lived with these 3 spawn-from-hell or heaven, (depending on the day) in a log cabin, deep in the woods of Maine. It was a simple, fundamental existence - so very different from the page we have landed on today. No wonder we are all so confused. Your site may have kept them alive another day. Thanks for your time and energy and most of all, congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Julie

Christmas is an annual December celebration enjoyed by many.. Christ and Christmas are not the subject of an annual celebration for all as many others celebrate a different entity or a different time.

No matter what, the time between birth and death is your time for enjoying and experiencing life and whatever life may present. Before us have passed many who have had their opportunity to experience, and after us there are the unborn waiting for their opportunity for the experience. In any case, enjoy your version! And, in any case, enjoy life, its blessings, and its hardships while you can..

Cindy, As usual I am always renewed when I take time to read your "musings" on life, love and whatever else comes along. This morning, while I should have been getting ready for church, I read an article in the Sunday paper about the power of language as used by Bush. Look for it on Seattle PIs website, it's breathtaking. Too few of us realize the power of our words. It's comforting to know that you do, and are willing to share you though. Big congratulation to Kira, my personal trainer is going through the same thing with her daughter and it doesn't seem to be going nearly as well. I do ache for her anguish. Do miss you in Seattle, but guess you're way better off up north.

Yes they have been drawn, but they are no where near each other. So, the youngsters will eventually have to go to war, after the bastard's first strike.

King's speech is clearly one of the greatest speeches of our lifetime and a model for vision casting for all generations. Do you believe King's vision is being realized? It seems to me that his vision was for a "colorless" society - a society where the color of people's skin was not used to catagorize them - but a society in which people would be "judged by the content of their character." What do you think? If his dream is not being realized, why not?

As I have done a little more reflecting on race issues I can remember back to a time in the United Methodist Church when some of my white, liberal friends believed that blacks should be elected to certain positions in the church just because they were black. Now that's not good enough. Now they have to be black and liberal because a conservative black person is apparently not black. As a conservative I have always voted for people based on what they believed and what they stood for and never took the color of their skin into consideration. I'm sure I'm confused, perhaps you can offer some insight.

Which political party is really living out more of King's vision? As I look back on the Clinton administration all the positions of power close to the president were held by whites. As I look at the Bush administration I see Condelias Rice and Colin Powell as two of the most influencial people in the high places of power. I also see Bush nominating Miguel Estrada, another minority to the DC Appeals Court. I see the Democrats opposing Estrada - you would think they would jump at the chance to put a minority on in a place of power. That doesn't seem to be the case. Why? He's conservative. My point? You not only have to be the right color, but the right political persuation if you want the support of liberals. So who is more color blind, conservatives or liberals?

Will Clegg
Pastor, Wesley Park United Methodist Church

******

Will-

I don't know, but I am sure about one thing- you are confusing.

Are you criticizing liberals because they judge people by their views and actions? Isn't that what Dr. King was saying- to judge people not by the color of their skin?

His dream is not being realized but it is much closer than when I was born- when there were separate bathrooms and other public facilities for "coloreds", when the state militia blocked the entrance of public colleges because "coloreds" were coming in, and all that other stuff. Times have changed immensely, despite still being far from idyllic. It seems to me that most humans have weak egos. They categorize and belittle others to boost their own small self. They are frightened by their own inadequacies and instead of trying to grow they shut off input because they fear they will not measure up, and they tighten any control they have. This is behavior not unique to caucasians, it is behavior shared by people of all colors- they all have their prejudices, but not all of them have much control. The "small mind" syndrome is rampant throughout humankind.

"You not only have to be the right color, but the right political persuation if you want the support of liberals." This appears to be true of both political parties, both support people of color only if they advance their group's agenda. I have no defense for Democrats, or for politicians in general- their motivation tends to be quite suspect no matter what. I don't think either party is color blind. Although the anti-liberal faction of our country has been very color blind in its assassination of liberal leaders, from the Kennedys on.

You asked me once what political leaning I thought Jesus would have today- I'm afraid that's your area of expertise. He didn't really seem to be mainstream in his own time- they killed him too.

I didn't realize that Mr. King's speech would be controversial, but that is all good. Dialogue is important, and ideas that lead to feelings of anger, fear and dissonance (both internally and externally) need to be talked about, and talked about, and talked about. There is a country song about "when the talkin's done, then it's time to get a gun". The talkin' is never done, it is only done when there is no need to get a gun. Yeah- I'm a damn liberal, wanting peace and harmony.

What were you doing 9-11-01?
Since I am writing you, obviously you were not on the plane for which the passengers aborted the terrorist mission probably headed to the White House and in the process leaving survivors among family and unknowns at the target.
And you were not a passenger on the planes that hit the towers or someone in an office of the towers.
Or, on the plane that hit the pentagon and destroyed life there.
And not even one of the rescue personnel that hurried up the tower stairs to pursue rescue of those trapped above. These people left a safe haven to save others and died in the process. Their lives were committed to such situations but in an infrequent encounter paid the price as many have done before whether in war, fires, storm and other strife of human life.

Let there be no more said as the memory itself will be more than enough for us to persevere.
