The Smokestack Comes Back to Life 9/2/07


One prominent Mount Vernon landmark has been the smokestack of the old dairy plant near downtown. For years it has been painted with a tulip, a nod to our tulip festival and all the flowers and bulbs grown here. Of late the smokestack tulips have faded and pieces of the stack were falling… This summer the top of the stack was removed, but quite a bit remains. This weekend someone was busy painting tulips on the remainder of the stack. We were afraid this icon would be lost, but the new product is nicely done. Pictures:
